Dr. Mariko Hirano, O.D.

Dr. Mariko Hirano has been a proud member of the Kitchener-Waterloo community for many years, having attended the University of Waterloo for her Bachelor of Science in Honours Science, Doctor of Optometry, and Master of Science in Vision Science. She enjoys working with patients of all ages, with special interests in paediatrics, contact lenses, and sports vision. She is a member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists as well as the College of Optometrists of Ontario.

Over the course of her optometric training, Dr. Hirano has worked in disease-focused practices in Pinellas Park, Florida, as well as primary care practices across the GTA. She has provided eye exams to seniors in long term care facilities as well as in-school visits for children. After completing her Doctor of Optometry degree, Dr. Hirano returned to the University of Waterloo to complete her Masters research on dynamic visual acuity. Her research focused on the effects of different factors on how people perceive moving targets, and methods through which this can be measured in optometric clinics.

Dr. Hirano is very passionate about patient education. She will happily answer any questions regarding eye health or vision testing, and enjoys keeping up to date with current research in the field of optometry and vision science. She is excited to be providing eye care to the KW community.
